Filming Wonder Woman was not easy for Gal Gadot. The actress who plays Diana Prince was several months pregnant during part of the film. A pregnancy that was obviously hidden on screen.
It often happens that actresses get pregnant during filming. While sometimes pregnancies are integrated into the script, this was not the case for Gal Gadot who plays the famous Amazon Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman in the cinema. The actress was, in fact, five months pregnant when she had to reshoot a few scenes of the film as part of the reshoot requested by the production. Several months after the end of the initial filming, the Israeli actress had to go back to the set and put her superhero costume back on to film a few additional scenes, and this, with an already very rounded belly.
An intense shoot for Gal Gadot
Director Petty Jenkins told Entertainment Weekly about Gadot’s dedicated and intense performance: ” She was pregnant for part of the movie, in costume outside in the cold in some scenes. We asked her to do so many things: Now do this on one foot, now shoot while you’re doing this. Now it’s raining and it’s freezing and you’ve lost your voice…. Every day was a challenge for her, but she did it. Now we’ll be able to tell her future daughter, Maya, that she’s in her mother’s womb in that scene, fighting.”
Chuck Roven, the film’s producer, also praised the actress’ hard work: “She couldn’t do great physical performances, but she gave it everything she had. And she was still fierce. It was special. I’ve been doing this a long time and I’ve never seen that before .”
In order to hide pregnancies on screen, productions do not hesitate to use many stratagems. Gal Gadot, for her part, had to wear a fluorescent green patch on her costume so that her round belly could be digitally removed in post-production thanks to special effects.
